Caging Stones Wire-Working
Caging is a wire-working technique, used to support a stone, shell, etc. that is not drilled with a hole. This allows you to incorporate a wider variety of material elements into your jewellery design, or use precious and sentimental objects as jewellery without piercing them.
I have developed my own unique technique for caging stones. The lesson focuses on controlled, tidy wrapping, minimal wire usage and creative freedom. I can also show you a variety of different caging and wire-working methods. Bring in a photo or a jewellery sample if you would like my assistance in recreating the effect.
Sterling silver and 14-18k gold are best for caging stones, as they are more malleable. I will provide silver plated wire for use during the class, which is a bit springier but sufficient for learning. I have a small selection of cabochons and stones for purchase; you are encouraged to bring your own stone or object for caging.
